Szabó Balázs


(1986, married)

Expert in international relations and journalism. Graduated in international relations at International Business School in Budapest and political sciences at ELTE University, Faculty of Law (Budapest). Scholar of the International Visegrad Fund at the University of Warsaw (Poland).

During his studies he was a member of the College of Advanced Studies for Security Policy, a professional organization at National University of Public Service of Hungary that is committed to tackling the world’s toughest social and geopolitical problems.
 
After various academic experiences in Russia (MGIMO Moscow State Institute of International Relations), Switzerland (Université de Genève) and Hungary, he has acquired a wide knowledge in election observation, completing election monitoring courses of OSCE/ODIHIR and programs of the Election Observation and Democracy Support program of the European Union.

Through his broad-based proven vast experiences in election monitoring, Balazs has been asked to serve and participate with various think-tanks of international relations and advisory boards.

As a founding member of GIEM, Balazs provides strategic guidance to LTOs and STOs regarding their overall field activities, safety and security standards in order to improve the professional approach during observation missions.
His profound field expertise in electoral observation included Russia, Abkhazia, Central African Republic, Poland, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Since 2006 he assisted on every parliamentary and municipal elections in Hungary, acquiring personal experience on every grade of the electoral process.

Beside his professional activities he currently works as elected municipality representative of his hometown in Budapest.
